Are you planning to start your freelance journey? If yes, you must be aware of freelance marketplaces where you can create an account and start earning online.

In this blog, I have created a list of freelance marketplaces for you to create an account and connect with clients. Although this takes some time to get noticed by clients in any marketplace, it is important to know how to stay ahead of your competitors/other freelancers. You can do this with the help of a clear profile description, targeting a niche, a professional profile image, a clear and concise profile summary line, and competitive pricing. This way you can stand out from the crowd at any marketplace.

So, here is a list of freelance marketplaces for you:

1. Upwork

Upwork is one of the well-known websites for freelancers to work. It has a variety of tasks available to work on and you have a choice to decide the best-suited jobs for you.

The clients registered on Upwork used to post their projects on the platform and as a freelancer, you are allowed to send your proposal against the job. You need to showcase your skills and expertise on the platform for the client to select you.

Upwork doesn't charge any money to create your profile on the platform. They only charge you a 10% service fee of the money you make on any project after it gets completed.

Above all the good things, it is important to know that competition is too high on Upwork and so, it gets difficult to get a job especially if you are a fresher/beginner.

But don't worry, I have listed other platforms too to help you start your journey.

2. Freelancer.com

This is another big marketplace for freelancers and businesses to connect. Every hour, the platforms get uploaded with a number of jobs including designing, writing, editing, development, marketing, research, and more.

Freelancer's website is easy to use even for beginners and you can create your profile with ease. You are required to provide samples of your previous work. The platform doesn't ask you to pay anything to register with them.

The only thing I personally did not like for this platform is that they ask to open an escrow account before starting a project where you as well as your client need to deposit some amount of money for a security reason. However, if you are okay with their terms & conditions, you can work on the platform.

3. People Per Hour

PeoplePerHour is one of the popular marketplaces that has connected over 1 million clients with freelancers paying £100 million. According to the website, it is a good place for freelancers to start whether they are experienced or just starting their career as a fresher.

In order to start with the platform, you first need to apply and fill the application to join the community. They will first review your application and when approved, you can start building your profile on PeoplePerHour.

Now you can access to the projects available on their platform. Either you can search for your desired project and apply or the client can find your profile on the platform and send you the details.

4. Fiverr

Fiverr is known to be one of the best freelance marketplaces that connect freelancers and clients around the world. The services offered on this platform fall under 250 job categories.

As a freelancer, you can create your profile on the platform and the clients have the option to choose among the best gig for their job based on the freelancer profile gig, experience, skills, and price. If you are interested, you can create a gig on the platform and start selling.

5. Guru

This is another freelance marketplace where freelancers and clients can get connected. Companies can find freelancers as per their job requirements and hire them.

Although the platform has a number of jobs available for freelancers, most of the jobs are in the programming & development category followed by design & art, sales & marketing, and more. Their basic plan for freelancers is free; whereas, other membership plans are also there. So, if you are looking for jobs in any of these categories, Guru can be a good choice for you.

Companies from around the world post their jobs on FlexJobs and as a freelancer, you can find a job as per your skills and interest. However, it becomes difficult to find a quality job by searching through the given links on the website.

FlexJobs is not free for freelancers, to access the full job listings on the platform, you are required to be a paid member by paying $14.99.

Toptal

Toptal is one of the best marketplace platforms for freelancers of the categories including designers, software developers, product managers, finance experts, and project managers. Top companies in these categories around the world post jobs on Toptal to hire top freelance talent for their projects.

So, if you belong to any of the above-listed categories, Toptal could be a good option for you.
